The main role of the intercooler is to reduce the temperature of the hot
air compressed by the turbocharger, before it reaches the engine’s

systems, thus increasing the engine power effect.
As the air is compressed by a turbocharger /supercharger it gets very
hot. As its temperature climbs, its oxygen content (density) drops, so
by cooling the air, an intercooler allows denser, more oxygen rich air
to the engine, allowing more fuel to be burned, thus improving
combustion and giving more power.
